ScripturePicture: Mark 3:9

Mk 3-9

On Monday we discussed events that happened in Mark 4.  But here in Mark 3:9, Jesus had asked his disciples to keep a small boat ready for Him should the crowds become too much.  The crowds were full of believers and non-believing lookyloos and were growing day by day.  Because of the multitude, you can be sure that the Pharisees were thick in attendance to keep an eye on Jesus and His disciples.  Jesus knew this and if the mob got unruly He needed to be ready.

I enjoy the thought that Jesus sought to prepare a way out of a confrontation.  Ready to retreat to safe environs – not because He was afraid but because He still had work to do and conflict with the Pharisees would probably hasten the timeline.

We all should have a way out if conditions attempt to derail our plans working for the Kingdom of God.  As Jesus said, “Have a small boat ready.”

  1. Maybe it’s related to our way of escape out of sticky situations.

    1 Corinthians 10:13:
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

He’s the small boat we need to keep ready!

    • I LOVE that Patty! HE is our small boat. So good. And it’s so true – whenever I’m tempted to sin He always provides a way out. I just have to be strong enough to take it … to get in the boat!

I'd love it if you'd comment! Thanks!
