Oh My! We haven’t seen each other in so long! I hope you’re well!
It’s all my fault, of course. I know you’ve been waiting patiently while I’ve been fiddling around with the book so let me bring you up to speed. It’s written. It went to beta readers and then it went to editing. Unfortunately, my editor was not the best I could have had and when he returned my manuscript, I was dismayed at the lack of editing he performed. I thought I’d get a good job done cheap. Ah well, live and learn.
The good news is that I’ve contracted with the editor I’ve always wanted to edit my work – Susan Hughes at MyIndependentEditor.com. I found Susan years ago while researching editors and was impressed by the number of books she’d edited that had won awards. Obviously, the author has a great deal to do with that – but the editor does too. I can’t tell you how disappointing it is to read a poorly edited book and I want my first book to hit the streets shining in its Sunday best.
Susan also edited a friend of mine’s book, Ben Nelson’s Encounters with Jesus and he was delighted with her work. So I sent off a few pages to receive a sample edit and I was bowled over with what she returned to me. I’ll even go so far as to say thrilled! Not only did she “get” me right away, she made thoughtful comments and even corrected what the other editor had changed.
So, I’m happy now. Susan is so busy she can’t start on my book until September but I’m content with the delay. Now I know I will release to the world the very best manuscript I can.
This fall I’ll introduce my new website FeleciaClarke.com where you’ll be able to sign up for my newsletter and receive a sample of the book for free. It’s a Christian memoir about how, even though I ran away from Him, God pursued me throughout my life and turned all my blunders into good. I think (hope!) you’ll like it. At the very least, it’ll be edited beautifully!
Now, I won’t leave you alone for long. In Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) this past year we studied Romans which got me thinking a lot about sin … and you know how I love thinking about sin! So get ready for the Sin Chronicles. I hope you’ll be able to take a look at your own sins as you read about me challenging mine.
See you soon and thanks for hanging in!
You all have been so patient! I must apologize. I don’t seem to be as put together as other writers & bloggers I know. I can’t seem to work on my book and keep the blog going at the same time. The truth is, the end of my first book is closer than ever!
I’ve finally finished it, and am now in the first re-write, after which I’ll turn it over to my beta readers before it goes to editing. So exciting!
It won’t be published the traditional way because who can wait years after a book is completed to have it published? I know that God will get it into the hands of the people He wants to read it and that’s all I care about.
I’m praying that someone somewhere will be touched by my words and that God will use the book as He sees fit. To His glory!
In the meantime, God hasn’t stopped talking to me so I am working on a couple things to post for you.
You can’t even guess how much I appreciate you hanging in there with me … more than you can ever know.
A personal note today. Well, usually all my posts are personal, but this is to you, my faithful reader.
I know I’m a little light on content this week. See, last weekend I started writing a piece on the enemy. Then I received a verse from scripture which took a slightly different twist on what I was writing so I thought I’d put it aside and do a little research and a lot of praying about it.
Next, a book by Michael Youssef (senior pastor of the Church of the Apostles in Atlanta, GA and Leading the Way Ministries) fell into my lap called “Conquer” which is about the same subject. Sometimes, only sometimes, do I get hints pretty quickly. God was going to use anything and everything to teach me a little more about the devil. I’ve written my fair share of posts about him because he’s real and he wants to thwart us from doing the will of God. The next post probably won’t be different, it’ll just have more, and perhaps juicier, information in it.
So this post is to say that I’m still digesting that information and in the meantime working feverishly on my first book. I say first because I’ve got about a zillion ideas leaking out of my fingertips but I’ve got to write this one first because I need to pour glory out to God. It’s a Christian memoir about how I spent most of my life running away from God and His persistent pursuit. Hind sight is more than 20/20!
Only two very long chapters to go and then a re-write (which is already in progress) and then I’ll probably ask for a few volunteers to be beta-readers … so be thinking about that if you’re so inclined! I spent so long in either pain or apathy during my 17-month health crisis (cardiac issues, surgery, and cancer) that it seems that I’m behind the eight-ball. But, it’s all good. The end is in sight and it’s glorious. That’s the name of the last chapter, by the way … Glorious!
Thanks for hanging in there during my light week! I appreciate you all very much – far more than you’ll ever know!
Have a wonderful weekend!
NaNoWriMo is drawing to a close (11:59PM November 30, 2014) and I can’t thank you all enough for hanging in while I worked on pumping out 50,000 words on my manuscript this month. I’m so grateful for you, the beloved reader. As an FYI, God has been speaking to me about some posts to write for December and I also can’t wait to share a little of my book with you. There is still editing and retooling and editing again to accomplish but it’s so exciting to be so close to DONE. I’ve tentatively titled it: ARE YOU READY? The story of a runaway girl and a persistent God.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day everyone! May you and your families be blessed by God’s great favor!
